Make a difference...

Last night, my two lovely children decided to wake me up. My youngest apparently decided to have a cuddle with her big brother and for some reason, he actually expected ME to get up and do something about it... lol... anyway... just before waking up, I remember having a dream where I was relaxing with some friends. This one friend of mine was upset that she had failed to help a friend of hers. She apparently thought that whatever she was doing would change her friend and improve his/her life.... I casually replied that for me, I try never to help a friend in order to change them, simply to hope to help make a difference. I don't remember a lot more about this dream as I rarely remember most dreams, but this one particular moment stood out in my mind. It's nice to know that even in my dreams, I have the ability to have profound thoughts and that it is in fact, the core of my very being. :)

In life, we meet people that we feel we can help and we become disillusioned when our efforts don't produce the results we would like to see.... in essence, we hope that our influence will change that person. What we often miss is that these people are who they are because of their individual traits. We should never try to change a person, simply seek to make a difference in that person's life. Whether it be a good difference or a bad difference is entirely circumstantial... one would hope that we make a good difference. Unfortunately, that isn't always the case. Sometimes, that's when we realize it's time to move on.
